Thanjai Periya Kovil Also Known As Brihadishvara Temple
We visited the Thanjavur Periya Kovil during sunset time . We didn’t plan it – we were staying at Svatma and this temple was near by . It was easy to visit in the evening.
This temple was beautiful! We visited over 25 temples on our South India Tour and this was one of my favourite temples to visit . I don’t know if it was because we went during sunset the temple just looked stunning . It also looked like it was built using a certain colour stones different than other temples we visited .
The temple is a Unesco site and it was well managed for entrance etc . It even had a gift shop inside . One of the most visited attraction in all of South India .
The temple was originally built by the Cholas in the 11 th century and added to over the years by different rulers . This is a Siva temple .
Definitely a must visit temple in South India !
