It is only normal to want to buy Kanchipuram ( silk ) sarees when you are visiting Kanchipuram ( the city of origin for kanchipuram sarees ) . My mom is a huge fan of Kanchipuram sarees and as such I was on a mission to buy her a few . When I searched online I found many cooperatives and stores in Kanchipuram but not many reviews . I decided to visit a few places to find a good place .

We didn’t have a lot of time so we first visited a cooperative but found the choices to be limited . I didn’t like anything there and the prices weren’t competitive to the Pothys Store I visited in Chennai .

We than visited Kanchipuram Handloom Weavers and it turned out to be an excellent choice .

We were escorted to a showroom where you sit on the ground and a sales person is assigned to you . That person than shows you sarees in the colours you select . I have never seen so many rich sarees ! We spend about two hours and I bought about 8 sarees !

In my experience the selection, quality and prices were much better in Kanchipuram compared to the stores in South India ! If you can, make your way to Kanchipuram from Chennai to buy sarees !
