Where To Stay On The Amalfi Coast ?

When we had decided to visit the Amalfi coast we were struggling with which city to make our base . After research and advice from family that has recently visited the area we settled on Sorrento as our base !

We are glad of the decision. Here are our reasons:

• Sorrento is the start of the Amalfi Coast . It has the most number of day trips to the rest of the coast ( Positano, Amalfi etc) , Naples, Pompei and Capri . These are all places people normally want to visit .
• It is more affordable than Positano. The Air B&B we stayed at was expensive however it was much cheaper than the ones at Positano.

• Many options for eating and shopping in Sorrento. It is a large resort town and has everything you need .
• There is a train to it directly from Naples . That train also stops at Pompei and Herculaneum!
• There are ferries that leave from it to Capri and Naples !

• There is also a public bus that leaves from Sorrento that stops at Positano, Amalfi and Ravello . Three major cities that you would want to visit on the Amalfi Coast .

Having visited the Amalfi Coast I cant see any of the other towns along the coast offering all these capabilities. Highly recommend making Sorrento your base if you are trying to keep your trip economical!
