Escape and Productivity: A Week-Long Retreat in an Alberta Mountain Cottage!
We spend a week around Banff during mid Spring in a mountain cottage airbnb and it was such a unique experience!
We worked during days and used the afternoons and weekends to explore the surrounding area. Given the 2 hour time difference we were able to wrap up our workday by 2 – 3 pm which still gave us a decent amount of day light to explore! Both my husband and I have been to this area in the summer and we were eager to revisit once again .
Our Cottage
We stayed in a wood paneled cottage with stunning Mountain Views in Dead Man’s Flats . Dead Man’s Flat is a mini town near Banff and Canmore . My husband found it more economical to book the cottage in Dead Man’s Flat vs Banff / Canmore 😊.
We did most of our grocery shopping in Canmore and enjoyed home cooked meals in our cottage for the week .
The cottage had stunning Mountain Views. It was a real treat waking up to the snow covered mountains each morning.
Exploring
We were able to visit :
- Banff
- Canmore
- Lake Louise
- Other Lakes
- Wildlife Sightings
Weather & Things To Do
One thing we didn’t fully realize till we got to Banff is the amount of snow in second half of April . Everyplace we visited was fully covered in snow and all the lakes frozen solid !! Given this every lake looked the same !!
Lesson : Make sure you understand if you visit at this time you are not going to see turquoise lakes ! Just snow covered landscapes.
It’s a great time to visit for winter sports or a cozy winter cottage stay .
The weather was slightly cold but no storms . Driving was completely comfortable. We were lucky – this area can still get large storms in Spring – so be prepared .
Overall
We had a great time working out of our cottage and exploring the surrounding areas! It was such a refreshing and special stay for us .
We started our trip here before driving to BC .
