Duration & Toll

The drive to Douro from Porto is an easy and quick one . Douro valley is only about 1 hour and 15 minutes from Porto by toll roads. Tolls are affordable in Portugal compared to North America.

Roads

The roads are multiple lanes till you reach near Douro valley . Once near Douro , it turns into a two lane road . It is still a rarely large two lane road . Easy to drive .

Once in Douro – you have the option to go up some hills to see pictures views – these roads are winding and requires careful navigation. Some hotels and restaurants have steep inclines or very narrow roads leading up to them . Drive slowly and pull over to let people pass .

Recommendation

Highly recommend driving to Douro from Porto . We went in off season ( October) and even than it was a stunning place with beautiful views all around .
