Madurai Temples
We stayed in four cities during our South India trip . Chennai , Pondicherry, Rameswaram and Madurai . By staying in these four cities we were able to visit a lot more cities and towns to see different temples . The last city we visited was Madurai . There were three temples we visited in Madurai .
Thiruparankundram Temple – Murgan Temple
We visited this temple because this is one of the 6 peak temple dedicated to Murugan . My husband has been visiting all the peak temples dedicated to Murugan .
This temple is believed to have been built in the 6 th century by Pandyas ( ancient Tamil Dynasty ) .
We went here on an evening and was able to get through the temple quickly .
Madurai Menachi
Madurai Menachi Temple had the strictest security measures I had come across in South India . You have to leave your phone outside at a booth that holds phones . There is security check at all entrances.
It is also a massive and stunningly beautiful temple . Well maintained as well .
We spend a few hours here and highly recommend a visit if you are in Madurai. One of my favourite temples in all of South India .
Pazhamudhircholai Murugan Temple
This is another one of Murugan’s six temples. It is located on a hill surrounded by forest . There are a lot of monkeys around the temple so be careful if you have food in your hand .
This temple is about 25 miles from Madurai and we used an Uber to get here .
