Washington DC – Day One
I have come to the conclusion it would be good to journal my traveling in addition to writing various informative posts about the specific locations . So here goes the Day 1 Journal Of My Washington DC travels .
Flight In
We landed in Virginia Airport on Dec 26 th 2019 and took a train to get into Washington City . For me Virginia just reminded of the CIA headquarters. Unfortunately it wasn’t visible from the train.
Washington DC Hotel
We stayed at the Washington Marriott Metro Center . It was a great hotel at an excellent location . We were able to walk to all the major sites from this hotel. The bed was comfortable and the service top notch .
After checking in to the hotel on the first day we decide to get brunch . We walked to the Unconventional Diner from our hotel . Since we were in DC during Christmas holidays it felt empty and peaceful.
The brunch was very delicious. The dishes well thought out and ingredients fresh . The restaurant was recommended by my husband’s friend . The crowd at the restaurant felt educated and sophisticated. Not sure if my views were biased or if that really was the case .
First Day Nap
Many times if we have a red eye flight or an early morning flight we take a nap ! I know- precious day light hours wasted . We did the same in this trip . Took a nap for a few hours and walked up to discover the sun had set on us .
First View Of The White House
After waking up from our nap we made our way to the White House . It was about a 10 minute walk from our hotel .
Seeing it in person for the very first time was very exciting! I had grown up watching it on tv and reading stories about it . Took tons of photos of it and thought about all the great man who lived there – excluding Trump !
In 2019 when we visited there was a fence that has been put in front of the White House for safety reasons. So really you can only see it from far away .
There were protesters in front . A small number of people promoting various causes . During our trip we dropped by the White House often and the protesters were there every single time !
We took an Uber to get to Kith and Kin- one of the most recommended restaurants in DC in 2019 . We also picked because the type of food had African / Jamaican and New Orleans influences. We love spicy and southern food !
We had to sit at the bar since we were last minute and that was cool with us . The bar tender was not friendly at hall . He just ignored us for most part . Not even a smile . We found it to be strange and a bit off putting. I don’t think I ever had such crappy service anywhere .
The restaurant was beautifully and expensively decorated . It also looks over the water . Couldn’t beat the views !
The food came and it was well made . The flavours were also unique. We definitely enjoyed the dishes and the cocktails. Just wished the service was warmer .
Wharf District Washington DC
Kith and Kim was located in The Intercontinental Hotel at the Wharf District. We didn’t realize it the restaurant was by the water till we got off the Uber .
After dinner we took a stroll around the Wharf district. It was decorated for Christmas. A very well thought out space . There were even Taxis available that could take you across the River .
Definitely an area worth visiting if you are in Washington for a few days and are looking for different places to explore.
Good Night
After dinner we took a bus/Uber back to the hotel and called a night .
We took a bus first since there was a free bus that brought us closer to the hotel and for the rest of the way we took an Uber !
It was a very enjoyable first day in a new city . Something very special about Washington. Not sure if it is the history or all the powerful people .
