The best town on the Amalfi coast is not the town of Amalfi it is Positano !

If you can only visit one town on the coast pick Positano! Positano is to Amalfi what is Santorini is to Greece . Sure it is full of tourist and crowded but there is a reason for it .

On your trip to Amalfi try to stay in Positano . If you are not able to, make sure it is your first stop on your car or boat tour . This will help minimize your exposure to crowds .

We were here in August and the crowds were manageable!

We did a private van tour ( it was a fancy Benz van ) and truly enjoyed our time . The guide/driver was full of information about the coast and Italian way of life . He was extremely accommodating.

If you are going by car your driver will park your car on top of the hill and you make your way downhill to the beach .

You will pass tons of shops , restaurants and a few churches . Everything is so dreamy and scenic!

When we got down to the beach it was stunningly beautiful! We walked back and forth taking in the views from all direction ! I took hundreds of photos .

We walked by the private beach clubs and the ferry dock .

Finally settled on the public beach . Had an incredible swim . The water has rocks on the bottom like most Italian beaches but as long as you have water shoes you’ll be fine !

We spend a good amount of the day relaxing on the beach and souvenir shopping.

If you can afford it I would recommend staying a few days in Positano. Your experience will be very different if you stay in the town vs if you just did a day trip .

Definitely a town I would visit again!
