Blue Grotto Capri
When we were researching for things to do in Capri came across Blue Grotto . The photos looked incredible. So did further research to figure out what it is .
Learned Blue Grotto is a sea cafe . There is a tiny entrance to go inside . Trained sea captains take tourists ( 4 max per boat ) to this cave . Due to the narrowness and length of the entrance you have to duck yourself into the boat as you go in to the Cave .
The water inside the Cave is an incredible blue . This is due to the cave’s shape and how sunlight gets inside . An amazing sight worth seeing !
When Is The Blue Grotto Open ?
It is open 9 am to 5 pm . When the sea is too rough they shut down this excursion. It gets too dangerous to go inside . You can find out if it is open by calling the Motoscafisti di Capri pier by dialing 081 8375646 after 9 am.
How To Get To The Blue Grotto ?
By Boat :
You can book a tour from the docks ( Marina Grande) where you will land from Capri or Naples . Motoscafisti, Laser Capri, and Capri Cruise boat charter companies depart with organized group tours of the island of Capri and stops at the Blue Grotto. Tickets cost around EUR 18 (tickets to enter the Blue Grotto must be purchased separately). These tours take about 2 hours. If you want a private charter I read it is about 150 Euros .
By Bus
You can take a bus to reach the entrance of Blue Grotto by land . It will cost under 4 Euros . Ask someone where the bus stop is .
By Taxi
You can also take one of Capri’s famous convertible taxis . Many of Capris Taxi’s are convertibles . It will probably cost between 40 to 50 Euros .
How much dues it cost ?
In addition to the transportation cost entrance is $14 Euros .
Is Blue Grotto Worth The Time And Money ?
It is very much is worth the time and money . The experience is only 5 minutes once you get inside but it is an incredible sight !
Our Experience
We had gotten to Capri around 8 am so we caught a bus to Anacapri and explored Anacapri first than took the chair lift to Mount Solaro . Spend some time there before taking a Capri Taxi to Blue Grotto . Loved our Taxi experience. Cost us $25 Euro .
There was a line at the entrance but it wasn’t too long . We were so excited. We watched as people got into the small row boats and get into the cave .
Than it was our turn . We got into the boat . They fill it with four people so there was another couple with us on the boat . Our boat went to the paying station on a large boat and we paid . We stayed low as we went in through the entrance . Inside it was beautiful. All the skippers sing Italian songs and it echos . Took lots of photos . The whole experience is done under 8 minutes .
You will get wet so dress accordingly. Our row boat reached the docks and we caught a bus back to Anacapri.
We were here in September and the wait was not too bad . Overall highly recommend the activity. One of our most memorable experience in Italy .
Once you get out the skippers will ask you for tips . Please tip them !
