The Scared Valley Of The Incas
What is Scared Valley ?
It is a Valley in the Andes near Cusco. This area was used extensively by the Incas and as such is scattered with archeological remains .
Many Bus tours are available to tour the different ruins . They usually tend to be full day tours . If you are looking for a half day tour ( due to time limitation) or flexible timing you can always arrange a private car . This is what we did .
Start Of The Scared Valley :
There are multiple archeological sites that you can visit as part of this tour . These are the ones we visited :
Pisac archeological Inca site:
This is one of the major archeological sites in Scared Valley . There are many Inca built structures and terraces that were believed to have been used for growing food at different altitudes.
Make sure to visit the market at Písac . Don’t let your private drivers take you anywhere else !
Chinchero
Chinchero was the town we visited after Písac . We went to a local market , visited a church on a hill and bought souvenirs around the church more so than at the market.
Chinchero Lamas
Moray
After Chinchero we visited Moray . Moray is famous for its amphitheater shaped terraces . Each terrace was at a different temperature and was used for growing different type of crop .
Salt Mines Of Maras
There are over 5000 salt evaporation ponds . These ponds have been in use before the time of the Incas !
Ollantaytambo
We ended our tour in Ollantaytambo and caught a train from there to the town of Machu Picchu. The private car was definitely worth it . The sites as we drive from one location to other was beyond stunning . Highly recommend visiting other Scared Valley Ruins in addition to Machu Picchu.
