Palacio Del Inka – Cusco
On our way to visit Machu Picchu we stoped by Cusco to spend a few days there to get used to the altitude and to explore Cusco and the surrounding areas .
Cusco was once the capital of the Inca empire and even today filled with incredible archaeological remains !
Palacio Del Inka
When we were picking out a hotel for our stay came across Palacio Del Inka . This hotel used to be a Palace ! It has been around since the 15 th century! It is a combination of Inca and colonial (Spanish) building techniques .
I personally enjoy staying in hotels with history and was super excited about this hotel .
The Lobby
In addition to being a Palace from the 15 th century this hotel was also a museum at some point . Because of this the entire hotel is filled with paintings and items from the past !
The lobby is stunningly decorated. See below !
Common Areas
I totally loved this hotel ! Everywhere you looked there was history and it was tastefully decorated in Colonial Style .
Inca Architecture
To this day some parts of the hotel is Inca built and some are Spanish built . Given the deep history of the Incas it felt unreal to stay in a building that was partially built by them !
The Incas are known as master builders . They used no modern tools or the wheel to built their walls .
Wall built by the Incas in the hotel :
The Courtyard
I love courtyards ! When I saw the photos of this hotel one of my favourite feature of it was the courtyard.
The courtyard was just as beautiful in person!
The Room – Suite
We stayed twice in this hotel . A few days before Machu Picchu and a few days after visiting Machu Picchu. As such we had two different suites during our stay .
Both were suites within the hotel ! Upgraded due to Marriott Status .
The room was also decorated in Colonial Style .
Suite One
This suite consisted of two rooms . A bedroom and living room . It also had a large marble bathroom and a balcony that looked out to the street . The ceiling was all painted with flower designs . Found this room to be a bit dark and beautiful. The bed was amazingly comfortable.
Suite Two
The second suite we stayed at was much larger and had a large bedroom, living room , walk in closet, two bathrooms and two balconies with the view of Inca ruins/temples ! This was my favourite room .
Overall the rooms were excellent with a great quality bed . Will write a separate post about the food at the hotel . The hotel also has a famous spa ( unfortunately we didn’t get to try it ! ) . Definitely recommend staying here to make your Cusco visit extra special! Besides how many times in your life are you going to get to stay in a Palace that is from the 15 th century !
