Huacachina is a desert oasis near the town of Ica in Peru . It is about one hour car ride from Paracas. One of the main reasons for us to stay in Paracas was to visit Huacachina !

Logistics:

It is very easy to catch a very comfortable bus from Lima to Huacachina. It is about a four to five hour bus ride . We took a taxi from our resort in Paracas which included the Dune Buggy Ride . It cost us about $60 for two people . We booked it in the town of Paracas instead of online !

Huacachina

This is a beautiful desert oasis town . Desert Oasis town is a water and plant filled area in the middle of the desert !

There are a lot to do in this small town ! In the 1960’s a lot vacation homes and restaurants developed around this area because people believed the water in this Oasis had healing properties .

As a result today there are many hotels and restaurants around this area . People visit this town to do adrenaline related activities and to relax and enjoy the scenery!

Sand Dune Buggy

One of the adrenaline activities many people try is Sand Dune Buggy . There are many operators available that offer 1 to 2 hour rides . Including rides at sunset . No need to book ahead of time .

The buggy ride can be a bit rough and kind of like a roller coaster. Don’t go on it if you don’t like roller coasters .

It was a fun ride and the driver even let us do sand boarding!

Sunset

We did our Dune Buggy during sunset and it was beautiful! One of the more popular items to do in this town is to catch the sunset in the dunes .

Once we were done with the Dune Buggy Ride we headed back to Paracas. If you have the time it is a worthwhile place to have dinner at or hang out at a club . It does have a lively party scene .

Highly recommend you add this town on your visit to Peru ! Very unique place. I have read about desert oasis in books and have watched it in cartoons so it was awesome to visit one in person .
