Saguaro – Tucson
Saguaro is a specific species of Cactus that only grows in some parts of Arizona, Sonora Mexican state and some parts of California.
It only grows in the Sonoran desert between sea level to 4000 feet .
For the first 75 years Saguaro cactus grows as one single piece straight up without any arms .
They also absorb water when it rains . After it rains they can look a bit plum !
It can be creepy to look out into the hills and see these repeating long line linear cactus.
Cactus older than 75 years old can have multiple arms growing out . Scientists has not figure out why some has multiple arms and some live all their lives without any arms !
Birds and even wood peckers live in these Cactus. Wood peckers make holes and birds make nests between arms .
These cactus can live over 150 years old and grow up to 40 feet .
These cactus can break up in winds storm .
All of these photos were taken on a morning hike right by the JW Marriott Tucson Resort .
In addition to the Saguaro cactus this area was filled with other desert plants .
The hike we did ends up at on old homestead . This homestead was built by a couple from Chicago. Two reporters . The wife had an illness and as such they moved to a warmer climate. They lived in pitch black darkness in the middle of the desert !
Overall a beautiful area to explore and I am glad to have had a chance to visit it !
