When we were planning our trip to Arizona I came across some forums that covered the drive between Phoenix and Flagstaff as well as driving at night time .

I found the forums to be confusing. As such sharing my experience below.

Drive Between Phoenix and Flagstaff

Phoenix is approximately around 1107 feet above sea level and flagstaff is around 7000 feet above sea level . As such the drive is a climb , however it is climbing slowly so there are not too many steep turns or drives .

If you have some experience driving this is a very manageable drive . The roads are wide and in most places it is a two lane highway.

If you are nervous, drive slowly on the right side lane .

Driving At Night Time

This part of the country is pitch black and there are constant signs warning of animal crossings .

I even saw deers on the side of the road .

However, driving at night is still doable . You need to keep your headlights on , watch for the separating white lane and drive a bit slower to give yourself more control if an animal were to cross .

If you are nervous about it better just to avoid it .

Overall a beautiful state with some incredible scenery between drive . The drives give you a sense peace and wonder . Much recommended for a road trip !
