2019 started with a free seven day cruise aboard Celebrity Silhouette!

In the past I have been on the Norwegian Gem with friends for my first cruise. Really had a lot of fun with my friends so was looking forward to the cruise .

Entertainment

This cruise was part of a work conference so there were some work events to attend to as well so that made it a little different. There was also no nightly entertainment which kind of sucked . That was one item that I enjoyed on the first cruise . Cruises similar to resorts have nightly shows.

The Celebrity Silhouette also had less physical activities compared to Norwegian Gem . However , Celebrity had an indoor pool and table tennis which I enjoyed! Cruise ships also have multiple physical activity setup for guests such as rock climbing, bowling, basketball court etc.

They had an onboard Casino that was well run . Also many shops similar to other cruise ships .

Similar to Norwegian they also had a white party and a dessert extravaganza night . On celebrity they had white garlands that lit up and balloons. Norwegian has better music at their white party .

Food

Also you had to pay for the special restaurants on Celebrity . On Norwegian cruise the specialty restaurants were included which we enjoyed. On cruises normally there is one buffet type restaurant that has food for all meals and one 24 cafe or room Service with limited menu .

Room And Common Areas

I had a much better room on the celebrity with a balcony, double bed , closet and large bathroom. Really enjoyed the larger room and recommend booking a larger room if you decide to cruise .

Celebrity ship was much newer . Only built around seven years ago . As much all the common areas such as the library , lunges etc were much better on Celebrity. Norwegian common areas were outdated given it was an older ship . This is definitely something to keep in mind when booking your cruise . Find a ship that is recently built.

Port Days

We had three port days . Cozumel, Bahamas and Cayman Island . I found Norwegian gave us more time for the port days vs celebrity. When you book a cruise make sure to check how long you have to spend at each port .

Overall

I don’t think I will be booking any more cruises in the near future . This is mainly due to the type of vacations I prefer . I don’t like sea days and I rather spend the money on an all inclusive vs a cruise ship .

I would recommend trying it at least once to see if it suits your vacation personality . Make sure to book on a five star cruise ship . That will make your experience much more enjoyable!
