Angkor Thom is a fortified city consisting of multiple temples and buildings near Angkor Wats and is usually included in what is called a small tour . It has multiple gates/entrances .

Bayon

The most famous Temple in Angkor Thom is called Bayon and was built in the late 12 th century by a different king than the one that built Angkor Wat . This temple was built as a Buddhist temple by King Jayavarman the seventh. It is a temple filled with over 216 smiling faces and beautiful carvings throughout that tells the stories of their time .

Angkor Thom consisted of thirteen other famous monuments. I didn’t have a chance to visit all . The other beautiful temple inside Angkor Thom is Baphuon.

Baphuon

Baphuon is a Siva temple and is beautifully designed. It was built in the 11 th century . It is a three tiered temple . The coolest thing about this temple is it was restored by archeologists after almost being completely collapsed.

The other interesting sites we saw was the place the Royal Palace would have been located at . It is believed to have been built out of wood and is no longer there . The Terrace of Elephants,The Terrace of the Leper King , Prasat Suor Prat and Phimeanakas. I liked Phimeanakas the most .

Angkor Thom is definitely worth a visit when visiting Angkor Wats . Don’t miss it !
