Whale Watching In Husavik Iceland
When we were in North Iceland we managed to drive up to the town of Husavik for Whale Watching. Husavik is considered Europe’s capital for whale watching. This town was one of the very first settled areas in Iceland around 800 AD.
Currently the town has less than 3000 people. This town is beautiful- it is on the Northern Coast of Iceland surrounded by snow capped mountains and a bay .
We arranged for a Whale Watching and Puffin Tour with North Sailing . The cost is around $150 CAD .
Was it worth the cost ?
For the whale watching yes . To go to the Puffin Island no . The famous bird of Iceland is puffins so we naturally wanted to see Puffin Island . The boat doesn’t get close enough to take good photos of the puffins on the Island. There were many puffins in the water but it was hard to get a photo of them . Also you can’t see them close up . So I didn’t find the Puffin part of the tour rewarding.
Saw Whales ?
Yes we saw multiple whales for over an hour ! We saw two types of whales . It was a fun experience! Running from one side of the board to other as the Whales came up on different side for air ! Dress warm for the tour .
The cost is worth it to have seen the Whales . There are only two places I visited where I think the chance of seeing Whales are high . Northern Iceland and Hawaii. Go whale watching if you are at either of these places.
