Xplor – Mexico – Cancun
On our trip to Mexico we knew we wanted to do a few excursions. I enjoy my southern all-inclusive breaks every few years, however the only way I can get through 7 days of an all-inclusive is if I can fit in some excursions!
One such excursion was our trip to the Xplor ! Their website for reference: http://www.xplor.travel/
Someone had recommended this excursion to my friend, and I was so very glad we did this activity.
Xplor is recreational park build on top of and underneath the site of where a 10 km asteroid crashed in the Yucatan Peninsula. This entire region is filled with stalactite [A stalactite is an icicle-shaped formation that hangs from the ceiling of a cave] and stalagmite [A stalagmite is a type of rock formation that rises from the floor of a cave] caves.
There are four main activities at Xplor:
- Zip-Lines
- Amphibious Vehicles
- Underground Rafts
- Stalactite Rivers
The park is an eco-park. So you can only bring certain type of sunscreen/bug spray products.
The park is also beautifully designed with hammocks, rest areas , smoothie and snack stations and a great cafeteria. Food and Snacks are included in the entrance fee as well as a locker. Make sure to plan your activities so you leave enough time to enjoy the rest area of the park as well.
You can visit the park at day time or night time. For day time it is between 9 am to 5 pm. The tour can be a bit expensive starting from 120 $ USD or higher depending on your location and it includes transportation and food. My personal view after visiting the park is that it is worth the price.
You have to wear helmets while you are in the park. You spend a lot of time walking through caves hence the helmet. The helmets have tags and there are cameras located throughout the park that takes your photos. The tags in the helmet are used to identify your photos. The photos can be purchased. It is cheaper to buy it together in a group. We enjoyed all our activities and bought the photo package .
My view of the different activities.
Zip-Lining
This was my first time zip lining. There were 14 lines in total. It was an interesting experience. The park tries very hard to make it interesting. Some of the zip lines goes into the water in cenotes, you have a good view of the jungle, and one even connects to a water slide. It was fun, but I was expecting more of an adrenaline rush. I don’t think you will get an adrenaline rush through any zip line. Skydiving or bungee jumping is probably better if you are looking for a rush 🙂 ! Ziplining is good to try at least once in your life !
Amphibious Vehicles
You get to drive these cool vehicles through caves, over bridges, into water and over different kind of terrains. Lots of twists and turns. There are two circuits. Highly recommended.
Underground Rafts
You had the option of doing a two person or one person raft and paddling it through underground caves. You could pick two routes. One 10 minutes and another 25 minutes. We picked the 25 minute single person raft. I learned that I was not very good at rowing with my hands !!! I kept on spinning ( very embarrassing ) . Memorable experience though! My friend was out and had to wait about 25 minutes for me to finish ! I still enjoyed it and would recommend either going with someone who knows how to row or to listen to instructions! The caves which we rowed through was stunning ! So being stuck in it wasn’t too bad 🙂 .
Stalactite Rivers
My favorite part about the park was the Stalactite Rivers. This was swimming for 25 minutes in a Stalactite cave with beautiful blue water. Stunning imagery and super relaxing. Best cave I have swam in to date !
Overall the day at the park was a wonderful day. I enjoyed the drink stations and the grounds of the park as well. Highly recommended activity if you are in the area!
