If you are from India or Sri Lanka you already know Accumulating Gold Jewelry is a favourite pass time of the population .

Singapore Gold Jewelry is considered by these two population to be superior to gold purchased in any other country.

When I told my mom I am visiting Singapore on my East Asia Trip she insisted I buy some gold jewelry pieces from Singapore.

Not having bought gold on my own before this was a stressful ask for me . In these gold stores you have to haggle to get a decent price . I am not a fan of haggling.

Nevertheless when your mom asks you have to accommodate !

I reached out to two of my friends to get recommendations on stores to buy gold from . They had bought visited Singapore before and bought gold .

Most of the gold stores are in Little India in Singapore.

Process For Calculating Gold Jewelry Price

The gold jewelry in most gold stores have their weight and maker cost on a tag attached to the jewelry.

To calculate total price You ask the sales person for the day’s gold cost per gram( this can differ from store to store – I didn’t understand why ) and multiply that by the weight of the jewelry add the maker cost and add 7 percent tax .

You than ask them to give you their best price .

One item to remember- you can get the GST back if you are a tourist . Make sure to take your passport with you for a GST refund from the store . They will not issue the GST form without a passport.

Recommended Gold Stores:

1. Mustafa Centre – This is Singapore’s version of Costco but on steroids. They sell everything under the sun at lower prices including gold. One of my friend had recommended this store and when I visited, I found the price to be lower compared to other gold stores I had visited.

I did most of my purchases in Mustafa just because it made sense from value from money perspective.

No need to haggle here ( my favourite part about this store ) .

2. Malabar Gold And Diamonds – This was the gold store I admired the most . The pieces were beautiful and well made. The prices reflected a premium for the quality. You also get a life time warranty on the jewelry. They have hundreds of locations around the world .

You still can haggle to get a better price . Unfortunately this store was out of my budget . One day in the future I can hopefully buy something from here !

Highly recommend this store if you can afford the prices . The service and helpfulness of the staff was excellent as well .

Avoid

1 Abiraame Jewelry – This is a store I purchased a chain from and regret . They had good designs but shady business practices . They added an international Visa card processing fee . I didn’t encounter this anywhere else . They also said they processed my GST internally .

This transaction just didn’t feel good . So avoid buying gold from this store.

Overall I would recommend buying gold in Singapore. It was about 30 to 40 percent cheaper than buying gold in Canada.
