Accommodation Around Ring Road Iceland!
We decided to do drive around the Ring Road in Iceland this summer. The experience was incredible! I been to many places but none compares to the diversity of landscape, untamed nature and beauty of Iceland!
We were able to drive around in 5 days with many stops along the way. We spend the last two days in Reykjavik.
When we were planning the one thing I stressed about was affordable accommodations. Hotels in Iceland are super expensive during peak season. Prior to this trip I had only stayed in one AirBNB and never a hostel or guesthouse. I am a very much a hotel person.
To manage cost I decided to book a hostel for our first night in Vik, Iceland. I figured we will book hotels each day as we drive along .
Day 1 : Puffin Hostel in Vik
At this hostel we had a two bunk bed room with windows , shared bathroom and kitchen. This was my first Hostel stay so I was a bit nervous. I didn’t need to be . It was very clean and about five minutes from the Black Sand Beach . It was in a 100 year old house . There were two things I didn’t like about this hostel. It was filled with many people and its heating/air conditioning system seemed out of whack . It got so warm at night time we had to open a window to cool the room down . I would stay here again due to its location and cost . The level of cleanliness also made me feel comfortable enough to book a guest house for day two .
Day 2: Höfn Guesthouse in Höfn
This Guesthouse in Höfn at $100 per person was the most expensive accommodation we had on this trip . Other than the price I loved everything about this resort . The rooms were big , all the furniture and decor was modern , very friendly staff and we had many items available for breakfast. Really enjoyed our time at this guesthouse and highly recommend it if you are looking for a place in Höfn ! Day 3 : Skútustadir Guesthouse in Mývatn
This guesthouse was on a farm. We had a two room suite with our own bathroom and free breakfast for a great price . This property was the best value we had for our money in terms of accommodations. It had a great view of the farm from our bed room and bathroom. A common area that was comfortable and well designed. The breakfast was excellent with fresh food . The only issue I had was the kitchen was in another building. Myvatn in June is filled with a certain type of fly that is everywhere. It sucks when you have to walk outside to reach the kitchen. Nevertheless, I highly recommend this property! Day 4 : AK Apartments in Akureyri
This apartment was less than $60 per night per person. It was in a central location, with free parking, very clean , good furniture and friendly staff . The person who checked us in gave us a great recommendation for a breakfast. Highly recommend it if you need a place to rest your eyes and get cleaned up !
Day 5 & 6 : City Center Luxury Apartment in Reykjavik
We really lucked out with this apartment. This is a 2 bedroom apartment with a large living room , kitchen bathroom and laundry room . It was clean and beautifully furnished. It was in the city . Most of the city attractions were under 15 minutes walking distance ! Lots choices for lunch/dinner. It was across from a 24/7 grocery store , right beside a bakery and noodle house . This place gave us a chance to relax for two days in addition to exploring the city . Another cool fact – this place is across from the only penis museum in the world ! Highly recommend it in Reykjavik!Overall I found staying in guesthouses , Apartments and Hostels gave me a chance to see how the people lived more so than hotels ! Everything was incredibly clean and I really enjoyed the uniqueness of each place .
If you have any questions about any of the places above leave me a comment and I ll be happy to help !
